“….Now, click your heels together 3 times ….There’s no place like home”

Late Wednesday afternoon, I was discharged from JFK to finish stage 1 of my rehab at my home, probably another 3 or 4 weeks in the immobilizers. The smell of fresh Hunterdon County air was a true inspiration. The main level of my 3 level townhome has been modified to accommodate the hospital bed, and made wheelchair friendly.

Of course they delivered the wrong bed and it had to be exchanged the next day. The doctors called-in my prescriptions, only the find out my pharmacy had gone out of business and all my records were sent to another drug store. So… it turned out to be a typical “Murphy’s Law” kind of day.

Ah…but the smell of home cooking…a nice steak, made it all worthwhile…almost. No more “Good Morning” at 5:00 am just to draw blood, and then smile and say “have a nice day”. Those nurses outfits are the wrong color, they should be “black”.

The hospital has arranged for visiting day care and home physical therapy. My wife (Pat) is really excited! Sure…she found out the home care aide will also clean, do laundry, dishes, and some shopping. I hope there’s a little time for me.

I understand my music sub is doing a nice job with my band classes and the program is beginning to get back to normal. Nice job Josh! I’m proud that my students have stepped up and are helping out in my absence. My marching band remains in high gear, thanks to a dedicated BPA organization, two terrific advisors, and of course Miss “V”. Thanks Guys!

I continue to receive kind thoughts and well wishes from parents, faculty and friends, as well as my colleagues in the music department, Thank you all!

And now… to that very comfortable hospital bed. I guess I can’t have it all.

Celebrate each day…there’s much to be thankful for…KH
