“Very young and very talented,” is the way Mr. Hunt describes this year’s band. For the first time in years, there has been a strong increase in underclassmen, but this does not mean that the quality of the band has decreased. The Marching Mustangs met during the last two weeks of band camp to begin this year’s show, The Phantom of the Opera, involving music from the popular play. Under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Hunt, along with his assistant Mr. Robert Glick, the band has only been predicting good things for the future. This year’s band has had a very strong sound from the very first day of Band Camp. The show itself is also going well, for it is the first time in over four years that Mr. Hunt is planning to have the band perform the first two songs for the very first football game. Drum Major, Senior Zyril Carilo and Field Director, Junior Adrian Ramos are also excited about this year’s band. They have spent much of their time helping the band learn the routines along with the music in anticipation of an excellent show. Mrs. Dawn Connolly, director of the color guard, has a very large and very young set of girls. A majority of this year’s flag squad is made up of underclassmen. The flag captains, Seniors Katie Martau and Cynthia Louissaint, have spent all of band camp teaching their squad routines such as The Horse and the basic skills they will need to perform the show. Overall, the Marching Mustangs are looking forward to a wonderful and exciting season. The band will be performing at every football game, both home and away, and Mr. Hunt, Zyriland the band members look forward to seeing you there!
