As the new school year rolls in, so does the new season of John F. Kennedy Memorial High School’s Marching Mustangs! Always entertaining and professional, the Marching Mustangs practiced their great new routine very hard. Band camp was very fun, learning, and extremely productive this year. Trumpet player Donna says, “Band camp was fun with the exception of waking up earlier than normal. Seeing everyone after the summer was great too, however we worked hard as well.” Worked hard indeed, the marching band practiced daily during band camp and fought through the heat as well. Clarinet section leader, Emily Moss, comments, “Band camp was really good this year. We learned a lot very quickly, and I got to know people, both new members as well as returning members, a whole lot better before the season really started.” Band camp isn’t all practice, it’s also like a reunion for past members and an “icebreaker” for new members. Music playing isn’t all marching band has to give, it also has the greatly talented Color Guard as well. With precise dance movements and flag twirls, the Color Guard will sweep you off your feet! Color Guard Captain, Kaitlyn Sena, comments, “It's been a new and difficult experience for the Color Guard, but in the long run I find we've never done so well and never been so prepared for the season. I have so much faith in this year's girls and I know that they, along with the rest of the band, will make my senior year one worth remembering.” This year’s field show theme is “Lookin’ Latin”! With great melodies and amazing beats, the marching band practiced vigorously to make it perfect. Donna also adds, “When I first heard we were doing a Spanish theme for the music, honestly I laughed. But once we started playing the music it was cool! I'm really looking forward to the shows we'll perform.” Without a doubt, JFK Marching Mustangs will knock you out with its spicy field show! Clarinet player Kimberly Aravena agrees, “Oh yes! I’m excited to see how our “HOT” field show will come out!” This year definitely brings something new! Flute player, Andrea Blumberg comments on the new theme, “The show is a little different from previous years. Instead of doing songs from a musical, we did a Spanish theme. And I personally don’t really mind the music. It’s different, but that’s what makes it more exciting.” This time not only will there will be the traditional all band pieces, but also percussion solo pieces as well! This will definitely give a “Caliente Kick” to our show. With great pieces such as, “El Torero” and “Malaguena” this year, our “Lookin’ Latin” field show will be very entertaining! Learning great pieces of music in a short amount of time is no easy task. Like clarinet player Suved Adkar says, “Band camp was a lot of hard work, but I think its paying off, as we are looking very good for this marching season.” Our marching band members worked very hard and you, the audience will see how good the Marching Mustangs are.
