Fundraisers

The Band Parents are involved in all types of fundraisers...from selling candy to hosting major affairs. "Big Event" type fundraisers, such as craft fairs and dinners, benefit the general fund. Other fundraisers go directly into student accounts. Some fundraisers are shared between both.

For more information on Fundraising visit our Fundraising Page.

Student Accounts

The student accounts are used to maintain funds for the end of year band trip. Building that account is an important task for every band member. Band trips usually cost between $650.00 and $750.00. Transportation, lodging, meals, exhibit fees and competition fees are all included in this price. The band trip is a fun-filled, learning experience, as well as a competition. Every student is expected to attend.

Throughout the course of the year, deposits and down payments must be made to bus companies, travel agents, and competition sponsors. Money must be available in each child’s account to offset these expenses.

We are asking that you add $75.00 to your child's account each month. For example, the  balance at the end of September should be $75.00 or more, $150 at the end of October, etc. There are several ways to build an account:  make small weekly or bi-weekly contributions, make a full $75.00 contribution each month, participate in fundraising events, or a combination of any of the above. Contributions may be sent in with your child in an envelope and given to Mr. Hunt or Mrs. Robbins, or they can be made at the monthly meetings.

We'll try to have at least one fundraiser per month that will allow you to add funds to your child’s account. The more you fundraise, the less you have to pay out of your own pocket.

The student accounts are updated at the end of each month. A summary of your child's account will be available at meetings. Questions regarding the accounts should be directed to Gail Cavallaro, (732) 499-7961.

Uniforms

Uniforms are distributed prior to Band Camp. There is a $20 deposit on the uniform for new band members, and additional charges for glove and shoe purchases. New band members must purchase shoes and gloves. Payment may be made by either cash or check.

Students are told before every event whether they should come to the school in their street clothes or in their uniforms.  Please make sure they comply with Mr. Hunt's wishes.

Uniforms should be dry-cleaned after every two games, and before any special functions, such as competitions and parades. Uniforms can be cleaned at any dry cleaners. The band uses the following cleaners:

Introcaso Cleaners
494 Avenel Street
Avenel, NJ 07001
Phone: 732-636-0437

Tell them you are from the JFK Band and they will clean the 4 pieces of the uniform for $6.00. Click Here for directions to Introcaso Cleaners.

The Band and Guard uniforms consist of the following pieces, with some exceptions:

-- Jacket

-- Pendant

-- Pants

-- Black Socks

-- Hat

-- Plain White T-Shirts

-- Ascot

-- Band Shoes

Percussion and tuba players do not wear hats.  The Percussion section does not wear gloves.

Guard members do not have a pendant, and do not wear hats.

For football games ONLY: Guard members should wear plain white socks and plain white sneakers, and black guard pants.

For parades and competitions the Guard should be in their formal uniform: jacket, pants, ascot, white gloves, black socks, and guard shoes

Pants should be an appropriate length, just below the top of the shoe so the sock is not showing. They should not touch the ground, and definitely should not drag.

Shoes should always be clean and shiny.

No jewelry is to be worn with the uniforms (this includes earrings, piercings of any kind, and watches).

Girls should wear very little makeup, if any at all.

Long hair must be pulled back in a ponytail with BLACK elastic.
